Natasha & Ted: Engagement Photos at the Weston Red Barn - PLUS My Musings of Destiny and Choice.

Life is amazing to me. I mean, it is just crazy to think how one persons seemingly small action can trigger another, and how everything we do affects something or someone somewhere. One person can change the world and a simple "hello" could change the course of history. It's true, just think about it. I'm surrounded by proof and I have no doubt about it. All around me are people, lives, stories, history. So many times, I think, "What if we had never met... How different life would be." Call it Destiny, call it fate. But ultimately, as human beings, we're still the ones that have to make the actual decision to act when destiny gives us that opportunity. It would be foolish of us to take our freedom to "choose" for granted. As I sit here typing this I'm finding myself almost in shock as I picture the people in my life and how so many events, relationships, stories and life-altering moments can be traced back to a single "hello" or simple action. Destiny always presents itself to us... our actions will determine the outcome. Life is amazing and I've totally inspired myself to make the most of every opportunity. Destiny doesn't always present itself in a loud and obvious way... but more often as a still, small voice from within.

Natasha and Ted are TOTALLY an example of this, and I think Natasha would tell you the same thing... seemingly small actions and decisions can change the course of life and history as we know it. Call it chance, fate or destiny, but Natasha met Ted through a friend. He was visiting from Washington. She was a Midwest girl living her day-to-day life not knowing that destiny was about to present her an opportunity that would soon change her life... and last name!

After meeting through a mutual friend, Natasha and Ted began to slowly take a few more steps towards each other. Since Ted was in Washington, they communicated through email, texting, phone calls and all things wonderfully technological! They made trips back and forth from Washington to Missouri... but eventually, enough was enough. Natasha and Ted decided that their choices had entwined their destinies together so tightly now that there was no separating them! Natasha moved to Washington to be with the love of her life and I'm absolutely thrilled to be able to photograph their wedding at Powell Gardens this spring! They were traveling through the area this winter and we decided to do their engagement session while they were in town. It was absolutely wonderful to watch two people so obviously in love and comfortable with each other... I often find that people who start their relationships "long distance" have a one-up on communication and seem to know EVERYTHING about one another!

Ted joked and teased pretty much the whole time which put Natasha at ease and made for some great laughs! I love watching couples interact and Natasha and Ted were very much in tune! Here are a few of my favorites from their session...

Weston is one of Natasha's favorite places in the Kansas City area. She told me of the quiant farms, apple orchards, rolling fields, and "Vaughn's Orchard - who has THE BEST fresh apple fritters!" ... Apple Fritters? Sounds like a plan to me!
Most of my clients admit to being a little nervous when we meet for their engagement pictures. They often say things like, "Everyone on your blog looks so relaxed and natural and I just don't think I can look like that!". We all have had those odd experiences with strange photgraphers squeezing a rubber ducky and saying "smile!" I'm sure each of us can relate to awkward family photos during the holidays or even at a wedding. So I totally understand this automatic CRINGE as we think of getting photos taken. But let me assure you, your engagement session is a time to relax and have fun and just be you. I'll help create situations and guide you and your fiance in ways that are just natural and YOU. I love how Natasha and Ted were so trusting as they let me guide them through an afternoon of hugging, kissing and having fun! OK... engagment sessions are pretty much one big makeout session!!! Reow! jk jk.
The Weston Red Barn was surrounded by some of the biggest pumpkis I've ever seen! It made for some fun shots...
Love. I love love!
Here in the midwest, we spend a whole lot of time in coats and layers. Sometimes, it is almost impossible to look stylish and sexy when you're bulked up underneath long underware, stockings, sweaters, scarfs and a thick winter coat!...BUT I LOVE how Natasha totally owns this wintery look and brings sexy back to a fully covered and layered outfit!
Ted is from Washington, so I'm sure these tempatures are practically tropical to HIM! lol. I love this one of the two of them.
CUTENESS!
Yep. This just happend.
I love this one!
The sun was nice and warm and I just LOVE sunset shots. I used to be afraid of shooting in direct sunlight, but now I love it. BRING IT ON SUNSHINE! It can create so much more "drama" in photos.
aw! We found a corn maze near by. I think Natasha and Ted got a little lost ;)
Check out the BLING.
I'm glad we made this special trip up north to Weston. It was such a quaint town and full of memories for Natasha. Now they'll have their OWN memories to share. Love it :)
He knows exactly what to say to make her smile. Love that. Laughter is always so much a part of engagement sessions and I find it to be so relaxing and invigorating all at the same time.
Don't worry. I'll catch you :) ....... Thanks so much you guys for trusting me and for being totally AMAZING! I'm so glad our paths have crossed and that you chose me to be your photographer. I'm so excited for your wedding this spring and looking forward to all the future memories to be made :) XOXO - Claire
